Off Grid Alaska
Sustainable Farming, Wilderness Adventures, and Gold Prospecting in the Heart of Alaska
Living and Farming the Alaskan Way
Off Grid Alaska is a small, family-run farmstead located in the Northern Denali Borough in the interior of Alaska. Lifelong Alaskans, we are developing a 69-acre property that operates completely off the grid using solar and wind power to sustain our greenhouses and daily operations. Our goal is to produce healthy, locally grown food while demonstrating how sustainable living can thrive even in Alaska’s rugged interior.
Our winters last between six and seven months and can bring temperatures as low as –60°F for extended periods. Because of the extreme climate and limited daylight, our farming approach focuses on seasonal efficiency and sustainability. We start planting indoors in January and continue through mid-May, producing organic vegetables, berries, and an experimental fruit orchard featuring seven varieties of apples and three types of cherry trees expected to begin producing within the next two years. With decades of experience growing food in Alaska, we focus on practical seasonal farming that works with the land rather than against it.
Our Offerings
Organic Farm Products
We grow and produce a variety of small-scale, naturally raised foods designed for Alaska’s unique climate. Our seasonal harvest includes organic vegetables, fresh berries, farm-raised eggs, and responsibly processed quail meat. Everything we produce is grown with sustainability in mind on our fully off-grid farmstead.
Wilderness Adventures
Coming soon, our wilderness adventure programs will offer visitors the opportunity to experience Alaska’s backcountry through guided outdoor activities and survival training. These experiences will focus on practical wilderness skills, self-reliance, and learning how to live and travel safely in Alaska’s extreme environment.
Gold Prospecting Experiences
Each fall we take youth and beginners to our 160-acre mining claim located in the heart of the Alaska Range. During this hands-on experience, participants learn the fundamentals of gold prospecting while gaining valuable knowledge about wilderness living, outdoor skills, and Alaska’s historic mining culture.
